Something not covered here? Ask us directly.

Which Zen Cart data is transferred to QuickBooks?

Customers, products and categories, orders with line-item detail, order totals such as shipping and discounts, and the tax applied to each line. Payments recorded against an order post as received payments, so the invoice closes in QuickBooks instead of sitting open.

Zen Cart is self-hosted. How does the connection work?

Zen Cart keeps everything in its own MySQL database on your server, so the integration reads from that database or from a small module installed in the store. No order data passes through a third-party service, which is usually why merchants chose a self-hosted cart to begin with.

Can existing order history be imported, or only new orders?

Historic orders can be back-filled in a one-off run before the live sync is switched on, so the QuickBooks file starts from a complete picture rather than from the day of go-live. Duplicate protection stops a re-run from posting the same order twice.

What happens if the store and QuickBooks disagree about a customer?

Customers are matched on email address or on a stored QuickBooks identifier rather than on name, because names are typed inconsistently at checkout. Where no match exists a new QuickBooks customer is created and the link recorded, so the next order from that shopper attaches to the same record.
