What it does
QuickBooks holds your accounting data in a form that is hard to get at from anywhere else. This utility copies that data into a MySQL or SQL Server database, where ordinary SQL, your reporting tool of choice and your other business systems can all reach it directly.
The first run exports the full data set. After that the sync runs at intervals you set, picking up new and changed records so the database stays current without anyone exporting spreadsheets by hand.
It runs in the background as a Windows service and sits in the system tray, where you can open it to change the sync settings, adjust the interval and read the logs from previous runs.

MySQL or SQL Server?
Both are supported and the sync behaves identically. The choice usually comes down to what your team already runs.
MySQL
The usual choice where reporting is driven by web applications or an existing LAMP stack, and where the database will sit alongside a website or an internal tool. Widely hosted and inexpensive to run.
Microsoft SQL Server
The usual choice in Windows-centred businesses, particularly where reporting already runs through Power BI, SSRS or Excel connections, or where an existing ERP is on SQL Server and the data needs to sit next to it.

Does this support SQL Server as well as MySQL?
Yes. Both are fully supported. You pick the platform when you set the utility up and enter that database's connection details; everything after that — the data selection, the schedule, the logs — works the same way on either.
Can I sync the same QuickBooks file to both databases?
The usual setup points one company file at one database. Where you genuinely need the same data in both — for example a SQL Server warehouse alongside a MySQL database behind a web application — talk to us and we will tell you whether a second scheduled job or a custom build fits better.
Is technical knowledge required?
Not to run it. Setup asks for your QuickBooks company file and your database connection details, and the rest is done through the application's own settings. You will need someone who can supply the database name, user and password, which is normally whoever administers that server.
Can data be synced back into QuickBooks?
The utility runs one way, from QuickBooks into the database. That is deliberate: writing back into a live company file needs rules about what wins when the two disagree, and those rules differ per business. Where you need selected data flowing back, we handle it as a custom integration.
Does the sync copy everything every time?
No. The first run exports the full data set, and subsequent scheduled runs pick up what is new or changed. That is what makes a frequent schedule practical on a company file that has years of history in it.
